AGBU Honors the Life of Edward Tiryakian, Grandson of Co-Founder Yervant Aghaton

With the recent passing of acclaimed sociologist Dr. Edward Ashod Tiryakian, grandson of Yervant Aghaton—the co-founder and a driving force behind the growth of AGBU—we are reminded of the legacy that both grandfather and grandson leave to humanity, especially in the areas of education and social progress.

Yervant Aghaton, an Egyptian Armenian businessman was a catalyst and strong proponent of the mission behind AGBU. He served alongside AGBU Co-Founder and first President Boghos Nubar as the first Vice President. He applied his knowledge and expertise to projects that brought much needed economic and social development to the Armenians of Ottoman Turkey and historic Armenia, during an oppressive period for Armenians in pre-Genocide history. His multifaceted endeavors were focused on education, agriculture, and cultural preservation, setting the foundation for AGBU's mission to uplift Armenian lives through education, economic development, culture, and humanitarian relief, now reaching all corners of the globe.

Similarly, Dr. Tiryakian, a distinguished scholar, was a brilliant intellectual and educator. His pioneering contributions to global sociology also leave an enduring impact. His achievements recognized in the U.S. Congressional Record reflect his profound influence both in academia and in support of Armenia. From Princeton and Harvard to Duke University, Yerevan State, and beyond, Dr. Tiryakian touched many lives, both professionally and personally.

AGBU extends its sincere condolences to the Tiryakian family.
