Through funding by the AGBU, the Karabakh Chamber Orchestra (KCO) was established in 2004; today, it flourishes and continues to invigorate the local community with a love of classical music and cultural excellence. The brainchild of Maestro Gevork Muradian, KCO came into being when a group of twelve musicians from Yerevan settled in Stepanakert to launch the Orchestra and joined six other local musicians from Karabakh. Over time, this ratio has changed and today 17 members of the orchestra are from Karabakh. Eventually, this founding group of musicians was also instrumental in starting a college at the Sayat Nova Music School of Stepanakert. In partnership with this college and the Shoushi Daniel Ghazaryan Music School, the orchestra prepares new musicians to help ensure the future of the orchestra. KCO has garnered a reputation of being one of the best chamber orchestras in the South Caucasus, with several invitations to perform abroad. Well known mezzo-soprano Juliette Galstyan, as well as other prominent Armenian soloists have performed in Artsakh together with the Karabakh Chamber Orchestra. In 2012, KCO performed in Bergen, Norway, and in 2013 at the Central House of Literature in Moscow, Russia. Both tours were supported by AGBU. In 2014, Karabakh Chamber Orchestra celebrated its 10th birthday.
