SHUSHI HOSTS THE FINALS OF ARMENIAN REPUBLICAN INTERSCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT

On May 6, the finals of the Armenian Republican Interschool Chess Tournament initiated by the RA Chess Federation, RA Education and Science Ministry and Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) took place in Shushi, Karabakh, with participation of 18 teams from all the regions of Armenia, Karabakh and Javakhq. NKR President Bako Sahakian welcomed and congratulated all the participants of the finals. The award ceremony was also attended by Smbat Lputian, Vice-president of the RA Chess Federation, Ashot Ghazarian, AGBU Armenian Representation Director, Vrezh Ordian, Deputy Director of RA Chess Academy, Razmik Hovsepian, Chairman of the NKR Sports Committee, and Arpat Avanessian, President of the NKR Chess Federation. Three Yerevan teams won the first three prizes: school #147 (3rd prize), school #55 (2nd prize) and school #171 (1st prize). The main goal of the republican tournament is to contribute to the development of chess among the schoolchildren, reveal new talents and maintain Armenia’s leading role in the international chess championships. Thanks to the financial assistance of AGBU about 700 schools from all the regions of Armenia and Artsakh received 2000 chess boards. AGBU also awarded all the participants of the finals and the members and trainers of the winning teams with medals, computers and sport uniforms.
