WOMEN’S COMMITTEE OF AGBU BUENOS AIRES VISITS ARMENIA

The Women’s Committee of the Armenian General Benevolent Union’s (AGBU) Buenos Aires Chapter visited Armenia on September 16-29. The group consisting of 30 people went on sightseeing tours all over Armenia visiting historical and cultural monuments including the Matenadaran Museum-Institute of Ancient Armenian Manuscripts, St. Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, Garni temple, Geghard monastery, Ashtarak, Oshakan, Sardarapat, Tsaghkadzor, Haghardzin, Dilijan, Goshavank, Sevan, Odzun, Sanahin, Khor Virap, Jermuk, Noravank, other museum and cultural centers. On September 18, the members of the AGBU Buenos Aires Women’s Committee visited the AGBU Armenian Representation office and got acquainted with the programs carried out by the Union in Armenia. The next day they visited Tsitsernakabert memorial and Yerablur to pay homage to the victims of the Armenian Genocide and the Artsakh war. During their visit to the Holy See of St. Etchmiadzin on September 25 the group was received by His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos of All-Armenians. In his heartfelt speech Mr. Harutyun Sarafian, Honorary member of AGBU, recalled the visit of His Holiness to South America back in 2004. Wishing good health and long life to His Holiness, Mr. Sarafian stated that the group was returning to Argentine with enhanced feelings of patriotism and pride. In the evening of the same day the group paid a visit to the AGBU and Holy See Youth Center in Nork district of Yerevan, where they watched the performance of the students of the Center. Women’s Committee of AGBU Buenos Aires also participated in the 10th anniversary events of the consecration of the St. Astvatsatsin Church in Nor Yedesia village of Armavir region, Armenia. The group was headed by Mrs. Diana Gabrielian-Sarafian, Chairperson of the Women’s Committee of Buenos Aires and long-year conductor of “Shnorhali” choir of the AGBU Marie Manoogian School of Buenos Aires.
