CONCERT IN YEREVAN DEDICATED TO THE 70TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ADOPTION OF THE UN CONVENTION ON THE PREVENTION AND PUNISHMENT OF THE CRIME OF GENOCIDE

On December 9, a concert took place in the Aram Khachatryan Concert Hall in Yerevan dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the adoption of the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide as well as the international day of commemoration and dignity of the victims of the crime of genocide and of the prevention of this crime. The concert was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, within the scope of the Third Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide. The event was sponsored by the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU). The concert featured Antonín Dvořák’s Requiem, performed by the State National Academic Choir of Armenia and the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra. More here.

On March 15, the president of the Republic of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan and his delegation met with heads of the Armenian American community to discuss state-building issues related to Artsakh and the role of the diaspora in the life of the country. After expressing his gratitude to the attendees for their involvement in numerous socio-economic programs, he presented AGBU President Berge Setrakian with the Mesrob Mashtots Order, the highest honor conferred upon civilians, for the longstanding leadership he provided in his support, commitment and services rendered to the republic. |

As a result of a trilateral agreement signed in November 2016 by the RA Human Rights Defender, the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) and the American University of Armenia, more than 40 staff members at the Human Rights Defender’s office have participated in intensive English language training. Within the scope of the educational program for staff members from various departments of the Human Rights Defender’s office, the American University of Armenia has paid particular attention to improving skills related to professional correspondence and conversation in English. |

The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Armenia and the American University of Armenia (AUA) signed an agreement to launch the first ever university program for training of non-profit management professionals in Armenia. Organisation of training courses for employees of civil society organisations (CSO) and for those who want to acquire professional education in the non-profit sector in Armenia is an important component of AGBU’s Bridge for CSOs programme financed by the European Union.
