On World Teachers’ Day, October 5th, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received 140 teachers of the AGBU and Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Youth Centers at the Vatche and Tamar Manoukian Library. They were accompanied by Rev. Fr. Komitas Hovnanyan, Dean of the Youth Centers.

On behalf of the teachers, Fr. Komitas noted that they were gathered in Holy Echmiadzin to hear the message of His Holiness, and with his blessing, become rejuvenated and strengthened in their mission. His Holiness Karekin II blessed the attendees and expressed his appreciation first to Father Komitas, then to the Directors and Teachers of the Youth Centers, for their dedicated and diligent service.

“We are constantly reviewing the activities of the Youth Centers and are pleased with the achievements to date”, said the Catholicos, expressing hope that over time, there would be Youth Centers in all of Armenia's major regions, where, as a result of the diligent work of the priests and teachers, young Armenians would strengthen their gifts and talents, and receive a spiritual education.

The Catholicos of All Armenians stressed that by its nature, the system of the Youth Centers of the Mother See is different from like institutions, he emphasized that the discovery and refinement of talent and abilities are just as important as education in the formation of a moral and upstanding character. His Holiness added, that the mission of the teachers of the Youth Centers is to create patriotic individuals and commendable children.

In conclusion, His Holiness asked that the Holy Right Hand of God protect and bless the teachers, and the Youth Centers continue on their path to prosperity and progress.

Today, approximately five thousand children and teenagers attend eight Youth Centers in Yerevan, Gyumri, Etchmiadzin, Vanadzor and Ashtarak.
