ALEPPO’S AGBU LAZAR NAJARIAN-CALOUSTE GULBENKIAN SCHOOL CELEBRATES 60TH YEAR (VIDEO MATERIAL)

 

With AGBU’s support, a celebration of the 60th anniversary of Aleppo’s AGBU Lazar Najarian-Calouste Gulbenkian school took place at Yerevan’s Arno Babajanian concert hall on December 5th. The ceremony was attended by the RA Deputy Minister of Diaspora Serzh Srapionyan, AGBU Central Board Member, AGBU Armenia and Middle East Coordinator Vasken Yacoubian, AGBU Interim Director Hovig Eordekian, almost 400 alumni, supporters and guests. The ceremony began with the performance of the hymns of the Republic of Armenia and AGBU performed by AGBU Scouts’ marching band. Little Violiniststs with musical director Hovhannes Moubbayed, Lusnyak Samvelian, Nanor Rasdgelenian, Arek Yazejian, Araz Ayvazian and Shahe Keshishian’s Choir all performed during the concert. The evening was hoted by well-known Aleppo-Armenian intellectual, former Principal of the Lazar Najarian-Calouste Gulbenkian School Hakop Mikayelian, who emphasized the important role of the AGBU in preserving the school as a national hub. “During the years of its existence, the students of this national hub have always shown the highest results in the state exams, trained generations and aroused the spirit of patriotism in them thanks to Aleppo’s best teachers. Today, more than 2500 graduates around the world remember their school with great pride. The graduates of this school have always distinguished themselves with their knowledge, patriotism and qualifications.” said Mr. Mikayelian. AGBU Interim Director Hovig Eordekian in his speech stated that the school must stand firm as an oak tree, facing all the challenges of life. “AGBU Lazar Najarian-Calouste Gulbenkian School not only serves as an ordinary school but has become a second home for all. The road between the school and the club has been walked by thousands of students over the years, who have been brought up in the most unique patriotic environment. The school will always retain that feeling in spite of the disaster and devastation of war.” Serzh Srapionyan, greeted those gathered on behalf of the RA Diaspora Minister Hranoush Hakobyan and spoke about the monumental role the school has played in the lives of those Armenians whose patriotism and national identity it has helped preserve.
