On October 15, presided over by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, the re-opening ceremony of the Izmirlian Medical Center and St. Nerses the Great Scientific-Medical Center, was held in Yerevan. Present at the ceremony were President of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, and Swiss-Armenian national benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Tigran and Helena Izmirlian. Attending the service were Members of the Brotherhood of Holy Etchmiadzin, members of the Izmirlian family, Armenian state officials, officials of the Izmirlian Foundation, representatives from Armenia’s healthcare sector, staff and faculty of the newly opened center and guests. Under the supervision of the Armenian Church, a $12 million project was undertaken through the sponsorship of the Izmirlian Foundation and Mrs. Louise Manoogian Simone to repair the existing structure and construct a new building for the medical center. At the entrance of the newly-constructed building of the Izmirlian Medical Center, students of the Arabkir Youth Center welcomed the honored guests with the traditional Armenian greeting of bread and salt, after which Mr. and Mrs. Izmirlian cut the red ribbon in front of the entrance. The Catholicos of All Armenians presided over the blessing ceremony of the newly-opened center. Guests toured the renovated facility, visiting several rooms and seeing the modern medical equipment that has been added to the Izmirlian Medical Center and St. Nerses the Great Scientific-Medical Center. After touring the center, Dr. Armen Muradyan, Director of the Izmirlian Center, invited guests to a program presentation in the Events Auditorium of the Center, where he expressed his gratitude for the support shown to the Center by His Holiness Karekin II and the commitments made by national benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Izmirlian and Mrs. Manoogian Simone. It is through their support and commitment that a new medical center, with modern, high tech equipment, has been opened in Armenia. The Center Director reflected on the social projects implemented by the hospital and the prospects of developing new services for the patients. Izmirlian Medical Center: The Past and Present was shown. This film, prepared by Shoghakat TV, reflected on the past and present reorganization, the mission of the center and its future plans. Mr. Gregory Djerejian, Senior Vice President of the Izmirlian Foundation in New York, greeted guests and reflected on the diverse projects undertaken by the foundation in Armenia. The Catholicos of All Armenians offered his Pontifical blessings and appreciation to the guests and shared his remarks, “Dear ones, nearly a decade ago, the Armenian General Benevolent Union donated to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin the former Proctology Institute, which had dutifully served the nation for many years in critical situations, with the hope it would operate in the future under more favorable conditions. The devoted children of our Holy Church, benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Tigran and Helena Izmirlian have made their sincere contributions for the renovation process of the medical center. The praiseworthy Mrs. Louise Manoogian Simone has also made a significant investment in fulfilling this God-pleasing endeavor.” As a tribute to the exceptional services shown to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and the patriotic efforts in the name of nation and church, His Holiness Karekin II granted Mr. Tigran Izmirlian the rank of “Knight of Holy Etchmiadzin” and awarded him a Pontifical medal. Mr. Izmirlian addressed the guests with his heartfelt remarks. The noble benefactor expressed his joy on the occasion of the opening of the renovated center named in memory of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Sarkis and Mary Izmirlian. He emphasized that the generosity of national benefactor Louise Manoogian Simone and the Manoogian family inspired him to undertake this significant effort. At the conclusion of the event, His Holiness Karekin II, President Sargsyan, and Mr. Izmirlian planted trees in the courtyard of the Medical Center.
