On September 4, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, received Mr. Berge Setrakian, President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin. A wide range of national and religious issues were discussed during the meeting. His Holiness Karekin II and Mr. Setrakian discussed their concerns about the continued challenging and escalating situation in Syria. Both underscored the critical need for all Armenian national organizations and individuals worldwide to provide assistance to the Syrian-Armenian community. President Setrakian wished success to the Bishops’ Synod of the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church, scheduled to be held at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin on September 24-27, emphasizing the important mission of the Bishop’s Synod in the life of the Armenian people. They also discussed the educational, social and construction activities of the Mother See. The Pontiff of All Armenians expressed his great appreciation to Mr. Setrakian, as a benefactor of the Holy See, and all AGBU members for their attention and devotion to Holy Etchmiadzin. Mr. Setrakian, in turn, expressed his faithfulness and dedication to the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and assured His Holiness that AGBU would continue supporting projects of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Holy See. During his visit to Armenia, President Setrakian also met with RA President Serzh Sargsyan, attended the matriculation ceremony of the first undergraduates at the American University of Armenia (AUA) and visited the construction site of the new AGBU building in the center of Yerevan.
