The Government of the Republic of Armenia, the RA Diaspora Ministry’s Syrian-Armenians Relief Coordination Center NGO, AGBU, the Armenian Apostolic Church and others continue various assistance programs for those Syrian-Armenians who were forced to move to Armenia due to the escalating conflict in Syria. In January, a new assistance program - distributing winter clothing - kicked off. Providing Syrian-Armenians with warm clothes to endure the cold winter of Armenia had become a matter of considerable urgency, given that many of them had left their homes in Syria taking only items of vital importance. Thanks to the generosity of German-Armenian philanthropist Mr. Suren Ohanian and his family, 16 tons of winter clothing and outerwear, for men, women and children of all ages, was sent to AGBU-Armenia. The clothing was transferred to the Syrian-Armenian Relief Coordination Center NGO. Clothing was distributed at the AGBU and Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Children's Center in Nor Nork. For just over two months, at least 3 times a week, volunteers from the AGBU Syrian-Armenians Assistance Committee, AGBU Yerevan Scouts, AGBU Yerevan Young Professionals and the Syrian-Armenian Relief Coordination Center NGO distributed clothing to more than 1,000 families. The quantity of clothing so generously donated by Mr. Ohanian was so great that clothing was also donated to nearly 30 organizations such as orphanages, senior citizens centers and more throughout Armenia. On March 22, Mr. Ohanian visited Armenia. At the AGBU-Armenia office, he met with AGBU representatives and members of the AGBU Syrian-Armenians Assistance Committee.
