On October19th, as part of the 87th General Assembly of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, a gala concert took place at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concerts Complex attended by RA President Serzh Sargsyan, Catholicos of All Armenians His Holiness Karekin II, RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan, other government members, representatives of intelligentsia, heads of diplomatic missions, delegates of the AGBU 87th General Assembly, other guests. Live scenes of different AGBU programs decorated the Complex lobby providing a unique opportunity for each and every attendant to have an overall picture of AGBU’s activities in Armenia. In his brief opening remarks AGBU President Berge Setrakian said in particular,

“On the eve of the AGBU 87th General Assembly, we have gathered in this beautiful hall of the Sports and Concerts Complex, filled with pride and patriotism, to listen and be inspired by the performances of our most talented artists. During the past two days of meetings and discussions we have reaffirmed AGBU’s century-long mission of serving with faith and devotion to the Armenian people, Homeland and the Armenian Apostolic Church. Proud of the prosperity and progress that we have witnessed, Firm in our belief in joining our forces for the prosperity and strengthening of Armenia, Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin and Artsakh, Ready to meet all the demands and challenges the future presents, Towards the 100th anniversary of the Genocide and the Future.

Today, as in the past, we believe that our homeland Armenia and our spiritual center Holy Etchmiadzin, towards which we have concentrated our efforts and from which we get the strength to continue the struggle for survival in the Diaspora, are the cradle that unites our people scattered around the world and ensures our survival and prosperity. We dedicate this concert to the AGBU’s 87th General Assembly, which once again has gathered us in our homeland and which aims to become a cornerstone of our Union’s patriotic service. Now, I have the distinct honor of presenting the President of the Republic of Armenia Mr. Serzh Sargsyan.

A special welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Serzh Sargsyan, which will be presented separately. His Holiness Karekin II also delivered a pontifical speech and asked for the Lord’s blessing for the AGBU’s activities and mission. Karekin II’s speech will also be presented separately.

The RA national and AGBU anthems opened the concert. The official part was followed by a beautiful concert program featuring the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra (Artistic Manager and Principal Conductor Eduard Topchjan), Ara Gevorkyan and his band, AGBU and Holy Etchmiadzin Youth Center Choir, Barekamutyun dance group, Shushan Petrossian, famous soprano Irina Zakyan and others and accompanied by short video clips about AGBU’s history and activities in between.
