The first Pan-Armenian Chess Olympiad took place in Yerevan in August 2010 as part of the “One Nation, One Culture” festival. The joint initiative of the Ministry of Diaspora and the Chess Academy brought together 40 top-ranked Armenian chess players from the Diaspora, Karabakh and Armenia. AGBU was among the co-sponsors of the tournament and provided the total prize fund of 22,000 USD. This was an unforgettable opportunity for the participating Armenians coming from 12 countries to compete with one another in their homeland. For most of them, this was their first opportunity to visit Armenia.
