17 young men from 2 different regions of Armenia (10 from Voskevan village, Tavush marz, and 7 from Jrahovit village, Ararat marz) took part in the Rural Training Programme organised by CARD with the support of AGBU’s Youth Professionals of the United Arab Emirates. The groups were provided with workshops carried out by Hrunik Manukyan, an expert from the region, who grows sweet corn for more than 5 years already and who introduced them to this high value agricultural product, new technologies in agriculture as well as new forms of pest control. Each group was supplied with 10,000 seeds of sweet corn purchased by CARD AgroService organization and delivered from well known US-based Abbott & Cobb seed company, which they went on to cultivate in their own regions. On August 25th United States Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch visited Jrahovit Village as part of her tour of agricultural project in the region. The ambassador was impressed with the work that the young men had carried out and expressed interest in future cooperation.
