One of the Armenian General Benevolent Union’s (AGBU) programs carried out in Armenia is the “Discover Armenia” educational project for the 15-18-year-old Diasporan youth. Like in the past four years, the program was successfully accomplished in 2008 too, in the period of August 8 - August 27. 22 young boys and girls from 13 cities of 6 countries, France (Paris, Marseilles, Vienne, Valance, and Porto), United States of America (New Jersey, New York, California), Canada (Toronto, Montreal), Lebanon (Beirut), Belgium (Antwerp), and Germany (Munich), spent unforgettable days in Armenia with Hermine Duzian, AGBU Diaspora Youth Programs Coordinator in Armenia. Along with their visits to St. Etchmiadzin, Tsitsernakabert, Sardarapat, Nork Children’s Center, Garni, Geghard, Oshakan, Sevan, Vazkenian Theological Seminary, Noravank and other sightseeing places and museums, the youngsters also participated in the renovation of needy families’ houses in the village of Khor Virap together with the Fuller organization. They also took part in cleaning the Khosrov preserve area this time in cooperation with World Wildlife Fund. It was a unique experience for them to ascend Mount Aragats after which they spent an unforgettable evening with famous singers Shushan Petrossian and Arsen Grikorian in AGBU’s camp Antranig in Lermontovo. The group also visited Artsakh, where they got acquainted with the AGBU projects carried out in Artsakh, and later took a trip to Shushi and Gandzasar.
