“AGBU Armenian Virtual College”

On May 23, Chairman of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Silicon Valley Chapter and author of the “AGBU Armenian Virtual College” project Yervand Zoryan and AGBU Armenian Representation Director Ashot Ghazarian met with Rector of the Yerevan State University (YSU) Aram Simonian. During the meeting the parties talked about future educational projects. Mr. Ghazarian presented to the YSU Rector the educational and youth programs carried out by the AGBU in Armenia. In particular, the sides talked about the “AGBU Armenian Virtual College” program carried out jointly by the AGBU and YSU. It’s a distance learning software program of Armenian language, history and culture envisaged mainly for the Diasporan-Armenians. The courseware and the management system of the project are being prepared in six different languages – English, French, Spanish, Russian, Eastern Armenian and Western Armenian. During the meeting YSU Rector Aram Simonian signed the “AGBU Armenian Virtual College” contract already ratified by AGBU President Berge Setrakian. The sides also discussed another major educational project carried out by the AGBU in Armenia – the construction of the Melkonian Educational Complex, its development and prospects of cooperation. In his turn Aram Simonian told the guests about their initiative to open a chair of Western-Armenian in the YSU Armenian Philology Department. Already this year they are planning to have 15-20 people in this group. The next day, on May 24, Yervand Zorian and Academician Samvel Shukurian, Academic Supervisor of YSU IT Educational and Research Center, who is coordinating the project, met with the specialists and professors of the “AGBU Armenian Virtual College” working group. This time they discussed the process of development and future plans connected with the realization of the project.
