FRENCH CLASSICAL CINEMA

*SEASON 2*
Alliance Française d’Arménie - AFG Film Club - Institut Français

Pépé le Moko
Julien DUVIVIER - France - 1937 - 93 min
Staring Jean Gabin, Mireille Balin
Original version (French) with English subtitles

HOMMAGE to Julien Duvivier: 50 years of his death (October 1967). Poetry of the lowlands carried by a magnificent Jean Gabin. Timeless noir romantic movie!

Summary: Malefactor and Parisian pimp, Pepe the Moko has found refuge in the casbah of Algiers, which has become its inviolable territory. It is protected by the neighborhood's hapless population. A police raid, led by Inspector Slimane, was organized by Commissioner Louvain. Slimane surprised Pepe and his band at a receiver, but Pepe managed to escape. The fugitive thus encounters a frightened young tourist, Gaby, of whom he becomes the lover. Ines, his mistress, devoured by jealousy, and Slimane, a hound-slew, will combine their efforts, one to get Pepe out of his den, the other to destroy this love ...

"In French films, Pépé le Moko by Julien Duvivier is a flagship film for me. It belongs to films interpreted by actors who today no longer exist, that is to say, the second roles which could be the first roles." - Jean-Pierre Mocky.

MUSICAL EVENING WITH CADENCE ENSEMBLE

AGBU Armenia cordially invites you to an enjoyable musical evening with the Cadence Ensemble.

The Cadence Ensemble was formed in February 2004 by five outstanding Armenian instrumentalists initially to perform the works by Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992).

The Ensemble’s premiere concert took place in April 2004, followed by several others that attracted the attention of fans and promoters. The Cadence Ensemble at once became one of the leading and most popular music groups of Armenia. Soon the ensemble expanded its repertoire to include masterpieces of classical and contemporary European, American, Russian and Armenian composers – while maintaining an affinity for Piazzolla. Arrangements of many famous works, including classical, world music and pop are now included in the ensemble’s musical menu. Also included are composed pieces dedicated to the ensemble and its members.

Cadence has enjoyed international exposure through live broadcast of its concerts, and the production of several CDs and DVDs. As a result the Cadence Ensemble is invited to perform in Russia, as well as European, Asian, Gulf and Middle East countries.

CADENCE MUSICIANS:
Jaghatspanyan Hakob Guitar
Khachumyan Varazdat Violin
Yeganyan Meruzhan Accordion
Mikayelyan Sofi Piano
