BUILDING AN INDUSTRY: CREATIVE TOMORROW

BUILDING AN INDUSTRY: CREATIVE TOMORROW

On Wednesday April 19, from 10:30 to 18:00, AGBU is hosting a full day event on the Creative and Cultural Industries in Armenia. At the heart of this event is the aim to unite key stakeholders and players in the CCI’s in Armenia - from artists, to creative start-ups, to international organizations working to better existing infrastructure - in order to collectively design a vision.
Where do we see Armenia ten years down the road in the CCI’s? AGBU is asking its event partners and participants to think together in order to define the ideal eco-system for helping young innovators step-up and transform ideas into realities, and consequently determine a strategy to get there. The day begins with a panel discussion on the current climate of the CCI’s in Armenia, a conversation co-lead by UNDP’s Kolba labs, and with the participation of the British Council, EU4business, and creative players in the arts, education, and design. The day continues with sector-specific THINKshops as well as several exciting showcase presentations on Creative Gastronomy (Ingredient), Creative Oenology (KEUSH), and finally ending with an exclusive preview of the UP Design Pavilion - an exhibit uniting Armenian designers and artisans to re-think the future of design in Armenia.

Join us for this full day of creative brainstorming as we imagine Armenia’s Creative Tomorrow.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION:

The event will be in both English and Armenian, simultaneous translation will be available.

NAGHASH ENSEMBLE AT AGBU ARMENIA

The Naghash Ensemble combines the earthy spirituality of Armenian folk song, new classical music, contemporary post-minimalism and the energy of rock and jazz. Three brilliant female vocalists and some of Armenia’s finest instrumentalists on duduk, oud, dhol and piano play new music based on sacred texts by the medieval Armenian mystic poet and priest, M’krtich Naghash. Written by Armenian-American composer John Hodian, The Naghash Ensemble’s “Songs of Exile” is a profound meditation on man's relationship to God from the perspective of a monk forced to live in exile for many years. Part folk music, part classical and profoundly moving.

In 2004, musician Izzat Majeed founded Sachal Studios to create a space for traditional music in a nation that had rejected its musical roots.
