AGBU ARMENIAN VIRTUAL COLLEGE SUMS UP THREE YEARS OF ACHIEVEMENTS THROUGH A VIRTUAL GRADUATION CEREMONY AND AN ONLINE GLOBAL FORUM

The AGBU Armenian Virtual College (AVC) recently celebrated the third anniversary of its operation through an online global forum and its first virtual graduation ceremony. AVC is the only Armenian online higher education institute. The event summed up the three years of achievements and introduced the upcoming developments and expansions in the program. Current students and valedictorians shared their experience with the audience virtually and in person. During the three years of its operation AVC has served over 2,000 students from 63 countries, spread from Georgia to China, from Sweden to South Africa and from Argentina to Canada.

AGBU 87TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY DELEGATES AND GUESTS VISIT TSITSERNAKABERD

On October 17th, delegates and guests of the AGBU 87th General Assembly, headed by AGBU President Berge Setrakian and accompanied by the AGBU Yerevan Scouts, visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex to pay tribute to victims of the Armenian Genocide. AGBU President Berge Setrakian laid a wreath at the Armenian Genocide memorial, after which members of the delegation placed flowers at the Eternal Flame and honored the memory of the innocent victims with a moment of silence.

AGBU 87TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY DELEGATES PARTICIPATE IN THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE ARMENIAN BENEFACTORS’ ALLEY

On October 20th, AGBU 87th General Assembly delegates, headed by AGBU President Berge Setrakian, attended the solemn opening of the Armenian Benefactors’ Alley near the Mikayel Nalbandian statue at Oval Park in Yerevan. Busts of great Armenian benefactors - Boghos Nubar, Alexander Mantashyan, Alex Manoogian, Calouste Gulbenkian, Mikayel Aramyants and Hovhannes Lazaryan - as well as a monument symbolizing the collective image of benevolence were placed at Oval Park upon the initiative of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.

AGBU Re-elects Central Board Members and Welcomes New Board Member Dr. Noubar Afeyan during the 87th General Assembly

On Saturday, October 13, 2012, the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) kicked off its 87th General Assembly in Yerevan, bringing together hundreds of international delegates to discuss the strong role that the organization will continue to play in Armenia and around the world. The week full of activities marked the beginning of a vibrant new chapter in AGBU's 100-plus year history. It is a chapter that will be led in large part by the esteemed AGBU Central Board, which has reelected many of its members and welcomed a new colleague, Dr. Noubar Afeyan.

AGBU 87th General Assembly raises 250,000 USD to support the Syrian-Armenian assistance fund

Towards the end of the AGBU 87th General Assembly held in Armenia from October 14-21, following the Union's call to raise funds in support of the Syrian-Armenian community, the AGBU delegates and guests raised 250,000 USD for this purpose during a farewell dinner organized on October 20.

AGBU 87TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY DELEGATES VISIT THE RA PARLIAMENT

Within the framework of the AGBU 87th General Assembly, the AGBU delegates headed by President Berge Setrakian visited the Republic of Armenia’s National Assembly on October 19th and were received by NA Chairman Hovik Abrahamyan in the Parliament Session Hall. Welcoming the AGBU delegates at the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan underscored the importance of future development of Armenia-Diaspora ties noting that unity will make stronger both Armenia and the Diaspora.
