VISIT TO TSITSERNAKABERD AND CANDLE-LIGHT VIGIL TO HONOR THE VICTIMS OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE (VIDEO MATERIAL)

This year marks the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. AGBU Armenia members, friends and staff visited Tsitsernakaberd Memorial on April 24 to honor the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

Prior to that, on April 21, AGBU Armenia scouts organized a candle-light vigil at the Swan Lake in the center of Yerevan to honor the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Each candle had a nominal name tag of a 1915 Genocide victim, which was pronounced out loud as the candles were launched into the water.

AGBU Armenia scouts pledged to make this an annual ceremony. They will continue to gather more names of the massacred Armenians and organize a candle-light vigil for the peace of their souls.

Later on April 27, AGBU Armenia scouts participated in the flower gathering ceremony, organized by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) in Yerevan with the support of Viva-Cell MTS at Tsitsernakaberd.

Thousands of flowers left at the eternal flame of Tsitsernakaberd Memorial receive a second life. With the help of ordinary volunteers and non-profit organizations the stems and petals of over two tons of flowers are carefully separated. The stems serve as fertilizer and the petals are used to make recycled cards and paper for letters of acknowledgement. The AGBU Yerevan scouts each year take part in this wonderful environmental initiative.
