The 9th Republican Interschool Chess Tournament, which had began in October 2014, finally came to an end in May 2015, bringing together Armenia’s chess lovers and students for a final match day at the Armenian Chess Academy. For the 9th consecutive year, through a tough competitions, painful losses and exciting victories, over 15,000 schoolchildren from all over Armenia, Artsakh and Javakhq, competed for the title of the best school team and best individual player. For the past eight years AGBU has been the sponsor of the tournament organized by the Chess Academy and RA Ministry of Education and Science. This year, upon the decision of the Chess Academy, the rules of the tournament were slightly altered: instead of the previous 4 players in one team (3 boys and 1 girl), this year the teams were comprised of 3 members (2 boys and 1 girl). The second change was that the 9th tournament was held in two separate age groups: high school students and middle school students. Until last year all students competed in one tournament. AGBU awarded all the participants of the finals with Lenovo tablets, top individual winners received sport watches, while the members of the winning teams of the tournament were given monetary prizes.
