AGBU AND HOLY ETCHMIADZIN YOUTH CENTERS CELEBRATE 20 YEARS

Twenty years ago, newly-independent Armenia was facing numerous problems. His Holiness Karekin II, who was then the Vicar General of the Araratian Pontifical Diocese, saw the urgent need to create Children’s Centers and address some needs of children. With the support of AGBU, Louise Manoogian Simone and other benefactors, centers were established, replacing the Soviet-era Children’s Art Centers, which were on the verge of closing. Since 1993, the number of Centers has grown from three to seven. More than 3,500 students, ages 4-24, currently benefit from the Centers by expanding their creative horizons and strengthening their relations with and understanding of the Armenian Church.
