13TH GENERAL CONFERENCE OF INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR ARMENIAN STUDIES (AIEA) TOOK PLACE IN YEREVAN (VIDEO MATERIAL)

On October 9-11, 2014 the International Association for Armenian Studies (AIEA) opened its 13th General Conference in Yerevan in partnership with the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran). The AIEA is an internationally recognized organization founded in 1981 through the initiative of specialists of Armenian studies Professor Michael E. Stone and Professor Jos J. Weitenberg. The organization brings together more than 400 specialists of Armenian studies, as well as representatives of related fields, from 20 countries of the world, including Armenia since 1988. The core of this association are the Armenian and non-Armenian scientists representing Armenian Studies Centers at various European institutions of higher education. The AIEA keeps close ties with the world’s various centers of Armenian studies including the Mesrop Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts (Matenadaran) of the RA National Academy of Sciences. As part of this cooperation the administration of Matenadaran initiated the holding of the 13th General Conference of AIEA at the Mashtots Institute of Ancient Manuscripts. Another important fact is that in the 33-year-old history of the association this is the first time when the AIEA conference is held in Armenia. This is a great opportunity for the scientists and specialists on Armenian Studies from different European Institutions to gather in Armenia - the cradle of Armenian Studies. Strengthening the decade-long ties with the Matenadaran and continuing to support its projects and initiatives, the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) became one of the major sponsors of this conference.
