On July 3, RA Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan granted Boghos Nubar Medal to Lebanese-Armenian public and political figure, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Lebanon, Arthur Nazarian. Arthur Nazarian was born in 1953 in Beirut. He received his primary education at the AGBU Yervant Demirdjian School of Beirut and continued his studies at the International College of Beirut. In 1973, he graduated from the Department of Textiles and Sciences at the University of Philadelphia as a textile engineer. From 1998 to 2000, Arthur Nazarian was the Minister of Tourism and Biosphere of Lebanon. Since 2009, he has been a Member of Lebanese Parliament. Since February 2014, he is the Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Lebanon within the cabinet formed by Prime Minister Tamam Salam. Nazarian continues to occupy a seat in the Parliament. He is a representative of the Nazarian dynasty, prominent Diasporan family of national benefactors, and is a lasting member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union. The Nazarians have sponsored the construction of the AGBU Beirut’s Levon K. Nazarian School, the “Nazarian” hall of the AGBU California’s Manoogian-Demirdjian School and other projects. The building of the Embasssy of the Republic of Armenia in Lebanon was obtained under the sponsorship of Nazaian Brothers. Brothers Arthur and Levon Nazarian sponsored the renovation of the hall of St. Nshan Church of Beirut in memory of their parents Garbis and Areg Nazarian. Arthur Nazarian is a member of the National Central Committee of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia. Praising Arthur Nazarian’s contributions in the reinforcement and development of the Motherland-Diaspora ties, as well as to the preservation of the Armenian identity in Lebanon, Minister Hranoush Hakobyan particularly mentioned: “We are hosting one of the most prominent Armenians. He s the type of an Armenian who sets an example of hope and dedication to any Armenian all over the world. He is the type of Armenian that every Armenian would like to become. Mr. Nazarian’s patriotic activities are invaluable. He has always supported the Armenian educational and cultural centers in Lebanon, as well as many other national initiatives.” Expressing gratitude for the honorary award, Mr. Nazarian mentioned: “I’m very touched to receive this prestigious award. I believe it is the duty of every successful Diaspora-Armenian to support Armenia. We can show the world our strength and power through our unity. I would also like to mention that Mrs. Hakobyan reaches out to every Armenian in the world with her love and actions.”
