On the eve of the holidays, the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) prepared a pleasant surprise for 1200 pensioners and children. For two days on December 28 and 29 the AGBU Yerevan staff and AGBU Yerevan Scout Movement members delivered packages full of food and drinks for Christmas to more than 600 pensioners in need visiting the AGBU and Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin’s three dining centers in Yerevan. Those who were not able to visit the centers themselves also received Christmas packages. The AGBU and Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin’s Nor Nork, Arabkir and Malatya senior dining centers have been providing daily meals to more than 600 pensioners in need for over 20 years. On December 29th, AGBU also prepared a New Year surprise for 600 Syrian-Armenian children, aged 6-13, at the AGBU Vahe Karapetian Center, where the “Syrian-Armenian Relief Coordination Center” NGO has been operating for several months. A festive celebration was organized at the AGBU Vahe Karapetian Center, with the participation of clowns, various cartoon characters and of course Santa Clause and the Snow Maiden. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) had also prepared gifts for the children on the day.
