CANDLE-LIGHTING CHAPEL AND PONTIFICAL MAUSOLEUM

The Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Candle-Lighting Chapel and Pontifical Mausoleum, being constructed alongside the main Cathedral at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, took place On November 14th, 2014 presided over by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians and His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia. The Candle Lighting Chapel is constructed through the generous donation of the Mother See’s benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Karnig and Ani Yacoubian (USA). The construction of the Chapel is carried out by “Horizon 95” Construction Company. Mr & Mrs Yacoubian were also the benefactors behind the construction of the Vasgenyan Seminary.

 

RECONSTRUCTION OF THE OLD PONTIFICAL RESIDENCE OF THE MOTHER SEE OF HOLY ETCHMIADZIN

 

The remodeling and reconstruction of the old Pontifical Residence of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin was made possible through the generosity of Mother See benefactors Mr. Berge Setrakian, President of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, and his wife Mrs. Vera Setrakian. The commencement of works blessing ceremony presided over by His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, took place in December 2010. The building was last renovated in 1958 during the time of His Holiness Vasken I, may God rest his soul. The official opening of the renovated old Pontifical Residence took place on July 5, 2014. The re-opened Pontifical Residence maintains its historical architectural aspect and continues serving as a Museum.

MOTHER SEE OF HOLY ETCHMIADZIN

 

AGBU's partnership with the Holy See of Etchmiadzin ensures the survival of the Armenian spiritual heritage for future generations. The construction of the largest Armenian church in the world, St. Gregory the Illuminator in Yerevan, was financed by AGBU donors. AGBU donors have also funded the following projects: renovation of the Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral, construction of Erebuni, Holy Trinity, St. Anna and St. Sarkis churches in Yerevan; St. Hagop Church in Gyumri; St. Gregory of Narek in Vanadzor; the Vaskenian Theological Seminary at Lake Sevan; and the Outside Altar and Clergy Housing at the Holy See of Etchmiadzin, Holy Etchmiadzin Service Center and Holy Etchmiadzin Elderly Home. In addition, the interior frescoes of the Holy Etchmiadzin Cathedral were restored to their original colors in honor of the 1700th anniversary of Christianity as the state religion of Armenia. With a generous contribution of AGBU donors, Mr. and Mrs. Nazar and Artemis Nazarian, the New Chancellery building opened in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin in 2010.
