EDUARD MELKONIAN’S “AGBU HISTORY” PUBLISHED IN RUSSIAN

In October 2010, with the support of the Armenian General Benevolent Union’s Central Board of Directors, Senior Researcher of the Institute of History of the Armenian National Academy of Sciences, PhD, Eduard Melkonian’s “Armenian General Benevolent Union: Continuous History” was published in Russian at the “Tigran Mets” printing house in Yerevan. This edition is a translation of Melkonian’s “AGBU History” book published in Yerevan in 2005.

AGBU 86TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY CONVENED IN BUENOS AIRES

The 86th biennial General Assembly of the AGBU was convened in Buenos Aires, on October 16, 2010. About 200 people including AGBU Central Board members headed by AGBU President Mr. Berge Setrakian, representatives of AGBU Chapters, authorized members and guests, from the Middle East, Europe, USA, South America, Armenia and other countries, gathered to discuss the past two years of activities of the AGBU and outline the future plans under the limelight of new challenges.

AGBU BUENOS AIRES WOMEN’S COMMITTEE MEMBERS IN ARMENIA

Members of the AGBU Buenos Aires Women’s Committee were in Armenia from September 23 to October 5. As part of their trip the group visited Sevan, Dilijan, Tsaghkadzor, Haghartsin, Garni, Geghard, Sardarapat, Oshakan, Khor Virap, Noravank, Yerablur, Tsitsernakabert, Gyumri. On September 26, the Women’s Committee members were received by His Holiness Karekin II, Catholicos and Supreme Patriarch of All-Armenians.

AGBU SCOUTS PARTICIPATED IN HAYORDINER SCOUT MOVEMENT IN ARTSAKH

Thanks to the efforts of “Haik’s Generation” youth organization the first scout camp opened its doors in Artsakh from August 3-10, marking the launch of the new “Hayordiner” scout movement in Artsakh. Senior scout leader Rubik Sardaryan from Tehran, the five-member delegation of the Armenian General Benevolent Union Armenia scout movement had arrived in Shoushi to support “Haik’s Generation” and the newly-established scout movement.

AGBU NAJARIAN-GULBENKIAN SCHOOL TEAM ANNOUNCED WINNER OF “HAY ASPET - SPYURQ” TV CONTEST

For five years now “Hay Aspet” educational program has been involved in instilling a love of homeland among the Armenian children. The AGBU Lazar Najarian-Calouste Gulbenkian School of Aleppo was also among the participants of this year’s “Hay Aspet-Spyurq” TV contest. Gaining victories over the other teams, they were announced the winners of the contest. The team also won the right to participate in “One Day of Childhood in Stepanakert” festival and a 7-day pilgrimage to Artsakh.
